Every Act of Recognition Alters What Survives is an ongoing project by Iraqi artist Rand Abdul Jabbar, commissioned by the London-based Shubbak – A Window on Contemporary Arab Culture. The project emerged from a participatory workshop entitled Memories of Home, which engaged women of the Iraqi and Arab diaspora in London in dialogue and discourse around perceptions of identity as related to place, history and memory. The workshop was co-produced with Grand Junction and consisted of a series of virtual meeting sessions held in the summer of 2020 followed by a residency in London at Grand Junction. The website will continue to expand as Every Act of Recognition Alters What Survives evolves. Discover reflections from the first phase.
